Event Details

Join our Writer in Residence for Slow Food in Fast Times: Dutch Oven 101 - a demonstration and tasting event.

We will start outside in the parking lot to tour a vintage trailer or two as a backdrop for Dutch oven cooking over coals. Then we'll move inside for a session on how to cook in a Dutch oven outdoors while camping and inside on stovetop or in the kitchen oven. Julia will cover how to buy the right equipment, care for cast iron, and recipes for one pot meals. It will also include an overview of Slow Food:  what it is, how to eat lighter and healthier by growing some food or buying locally sourced food. Slow food does not necessarily take a long time to cook, though it can in a Dutch oven. Slow food is healthier eating, focusing on “real” foods not fast foods.

The session will include an overview of McSherry’s cookbook/memoir Catch and Devour, with recipes and excerpts soon available at www.juliamcsherry.com. There will also be handouts with take-home information.
